The Fun:

  • Meats: Chicken, Pork, and Beef (any cuts)
  • Preparation Time: 2-8 hours depending on your chosen meat.
  • Judging Criteria
    • Taste (flavor, marinade, rub, & sauce) 40%
    • Appearance (presentation & even cooking) 40%
    • Creativity (originality of flavors) 20%

People's Choice Award: Attendees vote for their favorite dish!

RULES

  • Registration: Register by November 13th, 2024.
  • Ingredients: Use your own marinades, rubs, and sauces. Pre-marination at home is allowed, but grilling must be done on-site. .
  • Equipment: Charcoal or gas grills only (no electric). Bring your own grill, charcoal or propane, and necessary tools. Ensure your grilling area is safe with a readily accessible fire extinguisher. A first-aid kit will be available on-site, but you may bring your own.
  • Cleanup: Each grill master is responsible for cleaning their own area.
  • Sample Submission:
    • Judges' portions (3 oz each, totaling 9 oz) by 4:15 pm.
    • People's Choice samples with toothpicks on platters (enough for 50-70 people) by 4:40-4:55 pm to Brandon Smith/assistants.

LOGISTICS

  • Date: Sunday, November 17th
  • Location: Beach Assembly left side parking lot, 20 Bliss Rd., Ocean Isle Beach, NC.
  • Schedule:
    • Set up anytime in the morning (check-in as early as 6 am).
    • Start grilling as early as 7 am.
    • Assigned grilling spots (one spot = two parking spaces).
    • Parking: Unload first, then park in designated areas (avoid elderly/handicapped spots).

PORTIONS

Each participant should prepare enough food for the following:
  • Three (3) ounces for each judge. (Total of nine (9) ounces)
  • Enough food for a toothpick portion for People's Choice voting (blind voting) on platters (enough for 50-70 people)

PRESENTATION

  • Display your meat on a clean plate or platter. 
  • Sauces on the side are optional, but clearly label if for presentation or consumption.

CONDUCT

  • Sportsmanship is key! Unruly behavior will lead to disqualification.
  • Blind Judging: No revealing who cooked what. It's based solely on taste.


PRIZES

  • 1st Place Trophy: Judged by a panel using the outlined criteria. Defend your title next year!
  • People's Choice Award: Awarded to the crowd's favorite dish (determined by tasting tickets), served at our Friendsgiving Dinner at 5 pm in the sanctuary.
