Grill-Off

Grilling will be judged on the following criteria:

1. Taste
2. Appearance
3. Creativity
4. Texture

RULES

  • Register for the event by 9/23/2023
  • Use your own marinades, rubs and sauces.
  • Pre-marination can be done off site but grilling must be done on-site.
  • Provide your own grills, charcoal, and other necessary tools.  Neither electric nor gas grills are allowed.
  • Each person is to ensure that your grilling area is safe and free from potential fire hazards.  A fire extinguisher should be readily accessible. A first-aid kit will be available onsite, but you may choose to provide your own for quick access.
  • Meats should be purchased from Lowe’s Food, Food Lion, or Hills and receipts are to be retained for inspection prior to grilling.
  • Each grill master will be responsible for cleaning up of his/her own area at the completion of the event
  • Judges portions should be submitted by 11:45 AM
  • People’s Choice tasting samples should be ready by 12:30 PM

LOGISTICS

  • Campground gates will open at 8:00 AM. 
  • Grill teams will be assigned a grilling spot between the gym and cafeteria. 
  • Please unload your materials, then park your vehicle(s) in the designated parking. (DO NOT PARK in area designated for elderly/handicapped.)

PORTIONS

Each participant should prepare enough food for the following:
  • Three (3) ounces for each judge. (Total of nine (9) ounces)
  • Enough food for a toothpick portion for each person who purchases a ticket as part of the people’s choice award.

PRESENTATION

  • The meats can be displayed to your liking on a clean plate or platter. 
  • Sauces can be used on the plate or to the side, but please indicate if its for use or presentation.

CONDUCT

All participants must maintain a respectful and sportsmanlike attitude.  Any unsportsmanlike conduct, such as arguing with judges or other participants will result in an immediate disqualification.


PRIZES

This year we are offering two different prizes for our grill masters!
 
  1. There will be a TROPHY for first place after our JUDGES deem who earned the highest score per the judging criteria.  (You’ll be invited to defend your right to KEEP that trophy at next year’s event!)
  2. Also, we will have a PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD determined by attendees who purchase a tasting ticket and choose their #1 FAVORITE of all entries.  The winner of the people’s choice will receive an award!

PEOPLE'S CHOICE TASTING TICKETS

There will be a $2.00 ticket cost per person to participate in the voting of the people’s choice award.  All proceeds will go to benefit The Rose House women’s recovery center.
